INTERVENTION

LD-05LD-08

When the structure needs attention.

Settling cracks are expected. Structural movement beyond normal tolerance is not. We distinguish between the two, and when intervention is needed, we move decisively. Sticking doors and visible joint gaps are symptoms, not the diagnosis.

TREATMENT PROTOCOL

How we treat it.

STEP 01

Structural Assessment

Moisture content, log density, and settlement measured. Corner drop, frame compression, and structural movement documented with precision tools. You get a straight finding: normal, monitor, or intervene.

STEP 02

Crack Classification

Surface checks (cosmetic, acceptable, common) separated from through-cracks that allow water ingress. Upward-facing cracks on exterior log tops flagged for immediate sealing regardless of severity.

STEP 03

Check Sealing

Backer rod installed in upward-facing and through-cracks. Elastomeric filler applied: color-matched, flexible, designed to move with seasonal wood expansion. Sealed checks do not collect water.

STEP 04

Structural Jacking (if required)

Compromised sections lifted, shimmed, and stabilized. Log replacement at load-bearing points uses matched donor logs with concealed fasteners. Adjacent logs assessed for secondary settling damage.

STEP 05

Re-Chink & Re-Seal

After structural work, affected seams re-chinked. Settlement gaps that opened during the repair process addressed before the job is closed.

STEP 06

Monitoring Plan

If we're in the 'monitor' range, we document the baseline and schedule a 6-month check. You do not need to wonder whether it's getting worse. We will be back to measure.
