PROCEDURE

LD-02

No gap left open.

A failed chink is an open wound: drafts, moisture, insects, heat loss. We strip the failed material, prepare the substrate correctly, and install flexible elastomeric chinking engineered to move with your logs for decades.

TREATMENT PROTOCOL

How we treat it.

STEP 01

Inspect Every Seam

Every joint, corner, and opening assessed for adhesion failure, moisture infiltration, and flexibility loss. We probe for hidden failures behind surface-intact chinking, the ones that look fine until they don't.

STEP 02

Strip

Failed material removed completely. Rigid cement, brittle acrylics, failed caulk: all out. We clean the substrate to bare wood. Applying new chinking over failed old material is the most common reason chinking fails in two years.

STEP 03

Back-Rod

Closed-cell backer rod installed at correct depth. This controls flex, prevents three-point bonding failure, and ensures the chinking moves with the logs rather than tearing free. Most crews skip this step.

STEP 04

Apply

Premium elastomeric chinking applied by hand using specialty tools. Bonds to wood on two faces only. Moves with seasonal log expansion and contraction without delaminating.

STEP 05

Tool & Shape

Finished with clean, consistent lines. Adhesion confirmed at every joint. Color matched to your log species before application. On-site samples provided.

STEP 06

Full Perimeter Walk

Every seam verified. Air leaks confirmed gone. Interior chinking assessed if applicable. We do not leave until the perimeter is tight.
